The baskets are perfect for storing just about anything, use them as a bread basket, bathroom basket or a kitchen utensil basket. You can also use them for shopping, to brighten up your living room or to dress up a potted plant indoor or outdoor.

They are hand woven in Kenya, by women self-help groups in rural villages. The traditional skill is passed on to the younger generation. With the income, the women can invest in their farms, ensure their children´s education and plan for the future. 

Each basket is the work of hands and hearts: beautiful, extremely durable and easy to keep clean and each basket is signed by the artisan who made it. Eco-friendly and a guarantee of sustainable quality through Fair Trade.

Material 

All our mono baskets are handmade and very eco-friendly, achieved by using locally sourced natural fibres, paper, wood, leather and either recycled or upcycled plastics. We value sustainability by using natural and recycled materials that can be sourced locally. Sisal plants grow in the dry soil of Kenya where no chemical fertilizers are used in production. Although very similar otherwise, sisal is more durable than jute and can be formed into the shape you like. Sisal is also anti-static.

These Adia Mono baskets are made of sisal and plastic and are extremely durable and can even take water making them very versatile to use and easy to clean. Therefore they can also be used outdoors. The plastic used to make these durable high quality baskets is recycled or up-cycled residual waste sourced from local factories. 

Care Instructions 

Baskets that are made of sisal and recycled/upcycled plastic are not afraid of a little water and easy to clean:

• wipe clean with a damp cloth or hand wash in warm water if needed.
• Use a mild detergent.
• rinse with water but prevent from rubbing the surface.
• do not machine wash, spin or tumble dry.
• shape when wet and let dry in a warm place but not in direct sunlight.

Mono collection baskets are folded for shipment. You can form them into the shape you want by spritzing slightly with water using a spray bottle and then reshape with your hands. Your Mono basket is ready to be used and filled with whatever you wish. 

Size

As each basket is handmade the size and shape may vary. The basket diameter and/or height may be about 2.5 cm / 1″ smaller or larger than indicated in the size chart below.
